A new report says Apple’s HomePod with a built-in display running homeOS is going to launch as early as next year.

Apple Working on HomePod with Display, One Model Set for Launch Next Year, Higher-End Model Coming Later

There’s no shortage of news surrounding a smart speaker with a built-in display from Apple. So far, we’ve heard a lot of things about it, such as a built-in camera for FaceTime, a robotic arm that connects the speaker with the display and so much more.

Apple Intelligence is also rumored to be a key part of this new device, and it’s the perfect place for Apple’s AI to shine, apart from a phone, tablet or a desktop computer, of course.

Mark Gurman has chimed in once again and says that Apple is going to launch two versions of its new smart home device. One will be a lower-end model that will launch as early as next year while the one with the robotic arm will launch later.

The lower-end model will ship with a smaller display while the higher-end model will have a larger display. That’s a great way to lure people in, really. I’m already sold to the larger display, if it actually means something in terms of software.

Speaking of which, the new HomePod device will run new software called homeOS. It is believed to be a version of tvOS and Mark believes tvOS and homeOS will ultimately become one down the line.

The lower-end model is going to feature Apple Intelligence, A18 chip, with support for hand gestures. There’s no word on pricing for the lower-end model. However, the high-end model with the robotic arm is going to cost more than $1,000.

The purpose of this HomePod with a display is simple – to give you a glimpse of your smart home setup and see key details such as notes, reminders, your calendar and more. It’s unclear whether this device will offer a full app experience or will it be limited to widgets.

Though there are a few things missing in the report, I’m sure we will hear more about it in the days and weeks to come. So far, the HomePod with a display device is shaping up to be a very interesting one.
