The question is – will Apple’s brand new 25W MagSafe Charger fast charge an iPhone 12, 13, 14 or 15? The answer is yes and no, both.

Apple’s 25W MagSafe Charger Will Charge Any iPhone Just Fine, But Speeds Will be Limited to 15W on Older Models

The new 25W MagSafe Charger is made with iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro in mind and is fully compatible with older iPhones that support MagSafe. Those iPhone models include the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and last year’s iPhone 15.

This means when you connect the charger to the iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro, you get the maximum 25W wireless charging speeds, provided you’re using a 30W USB-C power adapter with it.

However, when you use the same 25W MagSafe Charger + 30W USB-C charger combo with an older iPhone, speeds will be limited to 15W only. It’s like using the last-generation MagSafe Charger with your iPhone.

In other words, your older iPhone will get the top charging speeds that it supports, but will not charge at 25W, something which is exclusive to iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro.

This also means the new MagSafe Charger will not damage your older iPhone in any way either.

It’s a common myth that using a faster charger will damage an iPhone. It is only true when you replace the word ‘faster’ with ‘cheaper.’

If you have anything between the iPhone 12 and iPhone 15, buying the new charger for the sake of extra speed is not a good idea. Stick with the older MagSafe Charger you currently have, it’s perfectly fine. However, if you are looking to future-proof yourself, it’s a whole another story.

Since we are getting a little geeky here anyway – if you use the older MagSafe Charger with a 30W USB-C adapter with iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro, speeds will be limited to 15W only. You have to upgrade to the new 25W charger in order to get those top speeds.

So, there you have it. With the correct power adapter, the newer MagSafe Charger will fast charge both older and newer iPhones at speeds that they officially support – not a watt extra or less.
