According to a new leak, the Apple iPhone 18 will feature the A20 chip based on the 2nm process along with 12GB of RAM.

New Leak Reveals Apple’s iPhone 18 to Feature A20 Chip Based on 2nm Process Coupled with 12GB of RAM

Though we just got the iPhone 16, news surrounding the iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 has been circulating for quite a bit now. Today, more details regarding the iPhone 18 have emerged, revealing that the new lineup will feature the A20 chip (obviously) but, it will be based on the 2nm process.

The jump from 3nm to 2nm means a far more transistor-dense chip in s smaller area that ensures more compute power and better efficiency. Currently, Apple is using the 3nm process to manufacture its chips for the iPhone.

Previously, we did hear a similar report, but it was believed that the 2nm chip may be exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max while the base model iPhone 18 will use the 3nm chip. Currently, Apple’s plans are unclear and there is a chance it may use 2nm chips in its entire lineup.

Lastly, the iPhone 18 lineup is said to feature 12GB of RAM and Apple may switch to a new chip packaging method which may lead to enhanced performance compared to what is being used in the current iPhone lineup.

Long story short, the A20 will focus a lot on efficiency and performance by packing things like CPU, GPU, RAM etc. closer to together.

And of course, that extra RAM is definitely going to help the iPhone in terms of performance. Things will multitasking and Apple Intelligence features will always benefit from such upgrades.

One thing is clear, the iPhone 16 is a very subtle upgrade compared to the iPhone 15, which means Apple has something special in store with the iPhone 17. Given the trend which Apple follows, the iPhone 18 may go big with performance instead of features compared to the iPhone 17.
