Now that the beta has been out for a while, here’s everything that is new in iOS 18.2 beta 1 for iPhone and iPad.

iOS 18.2 Includes a Bunch of New Features Including Image Playground, Updated Voice Memos App and so Much More

In terms of Apple Intelligence features, the update is a big one. However, I won’t go into too much detail regarding each feature because I’m sure you’ve read about it on Apple’s website a hundred times already.

Update to Writing Tools

You can rewrite text using Writing Tools in a wide number of ways and no longer limited to just 3 styles. Just type how you want the text to be written and AI will do the rest.

Visual Intelligence for iPhone 16

Long press on the Camera Control button on iPhone 16 and you’ll dive right into Visual Intelligence. Point your camera at the object you want information of and Apple Intelligence will do the rest.

Image Playground

The app that lets you create custom images using word prompts is finally here. Fire it up, type in the prompts and Image Playground will generate an image for you using Apple Intelligence.

Genmoji

Ever wanted to create custom emoji? No? It’s here anyway. Just type away your prompts and AI will create a custom emoji that is truly yours.

Siri with ChatGPT Support

Whenever Siri falls short to answer your question, it can tap into ChatGPT to take things further. It’s completely optional yet a great way to get things done since ChatGPT is way better than Siri, at the time of writing, at least.

Image Wand

Ever wanted to turn a rough sketch into an actual image? This is what Image Wand does. Just create a rough sketch in the Notes app, draw a circle around it, add prompts if necessary and AI will turn it into a real, proper image.

New Mail App

Though it seems like a small update, but it’s a big one. The Mail app can smartly separate email from one another based on the type of content it has – for example, newsletter, banking email and so on. The overall look has been refined as well.

Updates to Voice Memos

Remember that updated Voice Memos app which Apple showed off in which you can layer a track on top of an existing one? That’s here too now.

New ‘Type to Siri’ Toggle Switch

Type to Siri gets its dedicated toggle switch in Control Center. Just hit the + button and add it in. It’s a great way to start typing without making too much effort since Control Center can be accessed anywhere on iPhone and iPad.

New ‘Default Apps’ Section

The promised ‘Default Apps’ section has arrived with iOS 18.2. You can read more about it here.
