Here’s how you can enable Apple Intelligence on iPhone and iPad running iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 software updates.

Apple Intelligence is finally live on iPhone and iPad, thanks to the latest iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 updates, respectively. However, before I dive in and show you how to enable Apple Intelligence, there are a couple of things you should know.
Apple Intelligence is Not Available Everywhere
First and foremost, Apple’s AI features are not available in China and EU. But, they will be rolled out in the near future. However, there’s no time-frame for it at all.
iOS 18.1 is a Must and Check Compatibility
Secondly, iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 is a strict requirement and your device must support Apple’s AI, too. You can update to the latest software by going to Settings > General > Software Update and check for compatibility with Apple Intelligence by going to this link.
I’ll just walk you through everything one step at a time and you’ll be up and running in no time.
Step 1. Launch the ‘Settings’ app, then open ‘Apple Intelligence & Siri.’ Make sure Language is set to ‘English (United States).’
Step 2. While in Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri tap on ‘Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist.’ Tap on ‘Join Waitlist’ on the next screen.
Do keep in mind wait times can vary. For some people it’s instant and for some it takes forever. Be patient, that’s all.
Step 3. Whenever you’re accepted into Apple Intelligence, you’ll get a notification for it – ‘Ready for Apple Intelligence.’ Just tap on it and follow the on-screen instructions to enable it.
Once Apple Intelligence is live on your device, you can start using things like Writing Tools, notification summaries and more. Do keep in mind these are not the full set of features Apple has promised. It will roll out more with future updates.
In fact, the first wave of features are not even that exciting, but it’s a great start for most people. With iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2, Apple is going to step things up with introduction of Genmoji, Image Playground, ChatGPT integration and the brand new Mail app.
All of these features are expected to roll out later this year. However, some believe iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 will become available to download in early December. If that’s true, then we only have to wait just over a month for it.
