Apple has officially announced the new M4 iMac. Here is everything new in Apple’s all-in-one desktop.
New 2024 iMac Announced with M4, 12MP Center Stage Camera, 7 Colors, Nano-Texture Option, More
We knew an update to the iMac was coming. As expected, it has the brand new M4 chip deep inside its heart. However, rather than talk about each and every single thing, I’m going to focus on the things that have changed in this update.
M4 Chip
Apple is not holding back when it comes to praising the M4’s performance. Apple says it is 1.7x times faster in daily productivity tasks and 2.1x times faster in demanding workflows such as video editing.
Gaming experiences have been upgraded as well, and users can experience 2x more performance with the M4 chip.
Faster compared to what exactly? The M1 iMac.
16GB RAM
The new M4 iMac ships with 16GB of RAM as standard. Apple is not bumping the overall price of the iMac with this upgrade eiteher. You get 16GB of RAM for the same price of $1,299.
This bump in memory is going to be vital for Apple Intelligence and multitasking.
Nano-Texture Glass Option
Rather than shipping a glossy display, Apple is giving everyone the option to upgrade to the nano-texture glass option. If you dislike glare and want everything to look smooth as matte, this is the option you should go for.
Remember, that nano-texture glass costs extra.
12-Megapixel Center Stage Camera
You no longer get a static camera at the top of the display. Center Stage ensures you stay in frame and thanks to the wide-angle lens, features like Desk View is now a possibility on the new iMac.
Thunderbolt 4 All Around
Apple isn’t shipping half USB-C and half Thunderbolt 4 ports this time. All four ports behind the iMac are Thunderbolt which means they are super-fast and open up a ton of possibilities, too.
The base model configuration ships with 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports only.
Support for 2 External 6K Displays
Apple now supports connecting 2 external displays to the iMac. If needed, you can connect 2 6K external displays for the ultimate desktop experience.
Fresh Colors
Keeping things as fresh as possible, the new iMac ships in seven colors – green, yellow, orange, punk, purple, blue and silver.
USB-C Everything
The Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse that ships with the new iMac is now USB-C.
Pricing and Availability
The base model iMac starts at $1,299 and features an 8-core CPU and GPU and 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports. However, the model with 10-core CPU and GPU and 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports starts at $1,499.
You can pre-order the new iMac today and it will be available in stores on the 8th of November.
