Apple has announced that the M2 and M3 MacBook Air laptops now ship with 16GB of RAM as standard.
Apple Upgrades MacBook Air Lineup with 16GB of RAM as Standard on Base Models While Keeping the Price Same as Before
While the upgrade in base RAM is an extremely welcome change to the lineup, the one thing that really pleases me is the price. Apple is still selling the MacBook Air at the same price, and it starts at $999 for the M2 model.
Of course, if you are getting the M3 MacBook Air with a 13-inch display, it will cost you $1,099, while the 15-inch model starts at $1,299.
Given the difference between the price of the M2 and M3 models is so small – just $99 – I will suggest going for the 13-inch MacBook Air with the M3 chip instead. That extra bit of performance ensures longevity and smooth sailing when you find yourself between demanding software and workloads.
Though the new MacBook Pro now exists and is wicked fast, for most people, the MacBook Air is exactly the amount of computer they need. It’s super thin, it’s fast, it has a marvelous display, all-day battery life, and fast ports – pretty much everything you need to run your daily errands.
With 16GB of RAM now standard, it’s even better value. Doubling the RAM is something we don’t get to see often, but now that it’s here, make sure you take advantage of it.
I always say the only thing that can outdo the MacBook Air is the MacBook Air. Apple has finally done it here. Even though the reason behind the bump up in RAM may be Apple Intelligence, you don’t have to use those AI features if you don’t want to.
