Apple is planning to use its own Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips in the iPhone 17 lineup next year.
iPhone 17 to Feature Wi-Fi 7 Chip Made by Apple Along with Bluetooth, According to New Report
Ming-Chi Kuo has stepped into the scene once again with more Apple supply chain wisdom. He says Apple is going to use its in-house Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip in the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup and it will be based on TSMC’s 7nm process.
You can expect Wi-Fi 7 in the new iPhone 17, just like iPhone 16. This means the phones will be able to use 5GHz, 6GHz, and 2.4GHz simultaneously for the best possible performance.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Apple’s in-house Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip gets a mention. It’s believed that the upcoming iPhone SE smartphone will use a 5G modem as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips from Apple.
The most interesting thing here is how Kuo believes Apple is going to move its entire product lineup to its own in-house chips within the next three years. This is a bold move and goes to show Apple has a lot of trust in its own work when it comes to wireless technology.
When it comes to specs, the iPhone 17 is said to be a huge leap forward compared to the current iPhone 16 lineup. For example, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature 12GB of RAM instead of 8GB. Apple is also replacing the iPhone 17 Plus with a new ‘Slim’ model, which will lay foundations for the upcoming iPhone models.
While the iPhone 17 is said to use the A19 chip, it will be based on the 3nm process, just like the current iPhones. Apple is said to be moving to 2nm with the iPhone 18 and will slowly bring it to all devices in the future.
