Thought about upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, but I’ve decided to keep my iPhone 15 Pro Max instead.
Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max isn’t Exciting Enough for me to Upgrade from iPhone 15 Pro Max
Before I go further, do keep in mind this is my decision, and I am, in any way, asking others to do the same. Your reason for keeping your current phone or upgrading to the new one is yours.
Let’s begin!
I was super excited about the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max when the initial rumors started to show up. But, when the phone finally launched, I was on the fence about upgrading to the biggest iPhone Apple had ever built – the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
As someone who has upgraded to the newest iPhone every single year since the iPhone 4, I wasn’t going to skip this one at all. However, I pulled back a little and waited for one of my friends to buy it first so I could ‘test it out’ myself and then make a decision.
Every year, it’s been the other way around. I buy it first, they test it out, and they decide if they should get it.
Despite its larger display, the iPhone 16 Pro Max felt the same as the 15 Pro Max. The Camera Control, though really great, doesn’t add value for me – I’m an on-screen-controls guy.
Having played with the iPhone 16 Pro Max for a while, I have decided to skip it. It felt like the same phone which is already in my pocket. I couldn’t justify getting a new one for a few new features, the biggest one being Apple Intelligence, something the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are getting, too.
Sure, there’s Visual Intelligence, an extra feature with the iPhone 16 lineup. I never use such things at all, and if I ever feel the need for it, I’ll fill in the void using a third-party app.
But something tells me I won’t do that either.
I always find something of interest in a new iPhone to justify me upgrading to it. This year, I didn’t get anything. The biggest feature of these smartphones is Apple Intelligence, and those with compatible devices got it as a free software update anyway.
So, I’m going to keep my iPhone 15 Pro Max and think about upgrading next year when the iPhone 17 comes out instead.
