Turns out, selling the $3,499 Vision Pro to people is not an easy thing to do. However, If you bring the price down, people will definitely take notice.
Apple is No Longer Working on the Vision Pro 2, Shifts Focus to Cheaper Headset Aimed for 2025 Release
According to a report by The Information, Apple has stopped working on the Vision Pro 2 headset. But, it’s for a reason which makes perfect sense. The same report suggests Apple is working on a cheaper version of the Vision headset that will hopefully be priced around the $1,499 mark.
I firmly believe that the Vision Pro is a great piece of hardware. There’s absolutely nothing quite like it. But is it ‘$3,499 great’? Maybe not. The pricing is insane, to say the least. Bringing it close to $1,999 should be the company’s priority – lower the better. I’m sure Apple is going to make some massive sacrifices to hit that price point, but at the end of the day, it will be worth it.
Interestingly, the Vision Pro was launched in several countries last week. But, the launch really raised several eyebrows, with prices starting from an eye-water $4,999 in countries like Canada. It’s safe to say that Apple has a pricing problem right now, the product is absolutely fine.
Right now, headsets like the Quest 3 have gained more traction since the Vision Pro’s release. Sure, it has a lower quality passthrough, lower resolution display, but it’s the price that is luring people in. When it comes to value for money, Meta has nailed it especially if you directly compare the headset to the Vision Pro.
2025 is going to be an interesting year for Apple’s Vision headset, and it remains to be seen whether or not the cheaper model will manage to turn things around for Apple. For now, the only thing, I believe, that can save Apple is a slight cut in pricing for Vision Pro.
Just a tiny bit.
